Photography was always a passion for Joan. When she turned twenty-one, she received a Nikon camera as a gift. As she held that camera in her hands, a feeling of great excitement came over her. Then unexpectedly, she embarked on a career in from of the camera and photography became her cherished hobby. Still, she found herself more engaged in the action behind the lens; observing the styles and lighting techniques of the various photographers she worked with. In 1990, her hobby grew into her profession. Joan found that the duality of working both in from of and behind the lens gave her invaluable lessons, and a greater sensitivity when photographing well-known people.
Based in Los Angeles, Joan is known for her compelling, natural-light photographs; personality portraits, editorial, fashion and gallery art. Her photographs; personality portraits, editorial, fashion and gallery art. Elizabeth Taylor, Muhammad Ali, Andy Garcia, Patrick Swayze, Pierce Brosnan, Barbara Walters, Michael Keaton, Donna Karan, Yanni, Whitney Houston… just to name a few, game themselves to be photographed for her book. Released November 1994, 40,000 copies were sold.
As well as continuing with her commercial work, Joan is currently completing another black and white coffee-table book entitled, "Heavenly Earth". A distinct vision that captures the human body: One with Heaven and Earth.
